PRP injections are a relatively easy procedure done in less than 1 hour in the office. The PRP part of our blood has been proven to add slight volume while stimulating collagen. PRP injections have become very popular because it is using the patient’s own plasma and is very natural with no real complications. This provides a very natural look that many patients desire. This procedure can be injected absolutely anywhere on the face and body.

Patients should abstain from herbal supplements that increase bruising, alcohol, and N-saids such as Motrin and Ibuprofen for at least 1 week prior to treatment. The day of the procedure, the patient’s blood is drawn and put into a centrifuge. A centrifuge is a machine that operates at a rapid speed separating the components of the blood, one component being PRP. The area that will be treated is cleansed and the PRP is injected either with a small needle or cannula. The patient is given post instructions at that time and a follow up is scheduled 4-6 weeks later.

Because PRP is derived from the patient’s own plasma very little risks are associated with this procedure. Possible side effects are tenderness at the site, swelling and bruising. These are all normal and temporary.
